I have several Ballard schuetzen rifles with Winchester barrels and all shoot as good as my Marlin barrels.

That is a nifty Ballard and it appears with your good work, it will be even niftier(not sure that word is in Websters)when finished. The triggers appear to be other than Ballard, what do you know of them?

Thanks for the reply, and good shooting with what looks like a very capable rifle. Very interesting thread, don't know how I missed it. The two triggers, the Gove and yours surely look very similar. Makes the rifle that much more interesting.

Well, Joe, you've given new meaning to the term "Painted Lady".

The second stock style looks the best, now.  If you had kept the pistol grip with the second stock style, I'd have wanted the grip capped and the "crotch" filled in for better flow.  (I like pistol grips and my small hands seem to prefer them, too.)  But you're the one who's going to shoot it

Never thought I'd go for it, but the straight grip looks better to me here. It's kinda big and all, but the pistol grip one has so many curves and angles,it  just wears me out. Not much of a preference one way or the other, and, it'll come out nice either way. I just don't get to have an opinion very often. Roll Eyes

edit: no preference on the comb, so I didn't include that part.

Rifle or at least stock design by committee, who would've thunk?

Also, the second comb is definitely better, aesthetically speaking.

Straight grip looks best to me, both are excellent.

This is the one I like.

I changed the curve on the PG.

I love the straight grip stock on the pistol grip frame you have Joe! Reminiscent of the old #6 Schuetzen model Ballard and pretty sexy looking. A pistol grip stock on a Ballard with that lever designed to grip seems redundant.

#6 style stock:

I would do the pistol grip stock in case someone with fingers shorter than 8 inches shoots it  Roll Eyes

I think Frank's pistol grip treatment has merit, but, to me, the bottom line of his stock still doesn't flow.  Then, too, Marlinguy's point about redundancy is well made.  All-in-all, so far I still hold with my first choice.

Maybe build one of the style that clamps the barrel with forearm removed? Or maybe build a spare forearm just to install a palm rest on?
