What butt stock you guys think would go with that lever?

Something that "matches" the lever, I can't imagine.  For bench shooting, what could be better than the one it has?

What happens when your barrels are too tight?  Undecided

That lever needs a slimmer schuetzen stock with 3" prongs to keep it secure for offhand.

The obvious question is, why not a #6 style butt stock? It's a OH stock but, I think it's a straight grip. I think there was a 6 1/2 OH stock, that is a PG, too.

Are you wanting something with more drop, for OH?

Since it has the un-rebated frame, is it a low serial number?

Nice custom Ballard.  I agree you should use a "German" pattern schuetzen style stock with that lever'/trigger/barrel combination.  I've got an early #6 (full octagon barrel, all original) and I find the stock comfortable.  I have a Berg ML schuetzen but that stock has massive drop and not great for long shooting sessions.  The Zischang and Pope buttstocks with small pistol grips as shown in the Rowe Ballard book look good with that style lever.

Here my pick for you, Joe.

With your PG frame, it lends itself to a beautiful perch belly type stock. I LOVE perch belly stocks.

This one has that, as well as being simi Tyrolian cheek.

Joe,
If you do the stock yourself, you can put a full Tyrolian cheek on it. I think the guy in your avatar would also like it.

It will help in training for the German match, too.

What ever you do, it has to have a good perch belly on it! It has to, it just has to. Smiley

A Winchester/Helm stock, adapted the the butt-end of the Ballard would look nice and be suitable for OH, like you prefer. Just my opinion, not because I like them ol' Winxxxxxxx rifles. Kiss

This is fun!

I immediately thought of Berg when I saw the lever, so I second (or is it third?) a Berg stock.  There's also Schoyen's perchbelly number that CPA and maybe Crossno carries.  You could adjust the height and shape of the cheek piece to make it as Tyrolean as you want, if you want.

To tight against the breech block. Hell on levers links and screws. That kind of tight, Bob. She closes like silk and tight now.

If the threads are to tight it's hard to screw together and can gall the threads. Galled threads in a receiver is no laughing matter I can tell you.  Had it happen on a Hepburn. Took me a while with a fine riffler to get it corrected.

I thought you might be wearing the breech down. Thought I'd better make sure my Ballard barrels are not too tight  Grin

Joe,

I will work with you on a stock.  Don't worry, I work cheap and would enjoy working on something out of the normal.

Check with Mike at Crossno Gun Service (405-396-8786), I believe they have several Berg patterns as well as some others that might work for you.
