I am trying to get a load going in my 8x48R Sauer using what powder I have currently (N130/N140). I contacted Vihtavouri and was told 1. they don't have a firearm in the caliber and 2. they don't have any brass.
I have found loading data for N135 but I don't have any and it is over $120 for a kilo. I also have no other use for N135....
So I am thinking I might extrapolate 8,15x46R data for N130 if there is any. I do have RWS 8,15x46R cases and can use those to cross-reference the the capacity with the 8x48R.
Am I approaching this wrong?
Anyone have data for N130 in the 8,15x46R?
The approach is sound, if case capacity isn’t similar, but there might be some better options.
Looking at the cartridge drawing, Case capacity and cartridge size is between 32-35 Maynard and plain old 32-40. Not sure if that help with actual data for your powder choice.
Better news is a quick check of the cartridges listed in Quickload includes the 8x48r Sauer.
So with bullet weight and dimensions, case capacity and reasonably close assembled cartridge length getting a starting load is pretty easy.
The velocity you would like to be at and pressure limit if it’s a weak action is very helpful.
I would be happy to run some numbers tonight, or maybe others that might be closer to the computer today could also help.
Here’s a quick try with a .317 diameter 183 grain bullet.
