CPA barrel on a Stevens 44 1/2 action

Hello all,
A friend asked me if a CPA barrel (in .22 Lovell) will fit an original Stevens 44 1/2 centerfire action action with a .25/20 SS extractor. I didn't know but was sure I could find out from a Stevens guru here. Thanks.

CPA's have a larger barrel thread than a original 44 1/2.

A straight swap…no, can it be done….yes.

The original 44 1/2 has 7/8-16 barrel threads. The CPA action has 15/16-16 threads. A careful machinist can easily “pick up” the 15/16” thread and reduce it to 7/8”-16. Realistically, it will have to be set back at least 1 thread to re-index and chamber/headspace correctly. Unless its a very special barrel, it would hardly seem worth the extra effort.
