Yes, the color case hardening looks correct for an early Stevens, the later rifles have the ripple pattern.  The colors changed again when Savage took over, or possibly a bit sooner before Savage.

The "pinto" case colors seem to start at about s/n 69,000.  That's simultaneous with the appearance of the Stevens stamp on the left side of the frame.   s/n 69015 is very well preserved and has both.

I know I am late to the party, but I'll add my 2 cents anyway. The color case is not correct (receiver or buttplate), and I'd venture to guess it's not really color cased, it's hard to tell from the photos but it looks like the breech block and hammer were also "color cased" and I have never seen an original with colored breech block. The screws look like they were nitre blued, the stock was obviously refinished, and there is something about the stock and forearm I don't like but can't put my finger on it. Phil did seller ever send picture of the bottom barrel flats? OK you got about 4 cents worth of opinion I guess....but I could always be wrong.

No, I never got a photo of the barrel marking, despite a followup email.  Left me assuming the worst, of course.
