Wow! There are some gorgeous Hepburns out there to be really proud of! Would love to have a Walker Hepburn like one of those that Warren Greatbatch sold at auction a few years ago.

Only a very few made, so it might be a while, time to save a boatload.

Here's one not so gorgeous. Was originally a 25-20SS. Now it's a 38-55. It's been used a lot. One of my favorite old rifles. Nothing ever goes wrong with it and it cannot be wore out.

That wingnut on the palm rest is cadmium plated. Cadmium.  Cool

All Hepburns are beautiful to me regardless of condition ,the one above posted by Westerner , well I just find it to be romantic , but I admit to being different! 😎

Here's my Match B in .30/40. The 34" barrel is very unusual. Tom Rowe reckons it might be a one off.

He told me mine with 34" barrel was the only one he knew of!

Vall, Tom told me that the 34" barrel in .30/40 was a really strange combination & probably a one off. It's really got me beat how a rifle like this ended up out here in Oz as the .30/40 was not a common cartridge here & the Hepburn even less so (and it's been here since the 1930's!!). Yours in .32/40 with a 34" barrel probably made more sense. It just goes to show that you could just about order anything back in those days.
I've now added the correct sights.

On the Hepburns with the .30-40 Krag barrels, how are they marked for this cartridge on the barrel? Is it .30-40, or .30 Krag, or???

Mine is marked 30.40 under the barrel and just ahead of the forearm.

Totally different fonts and a non factory looking stamping. I would have expected a 30 USA marking.

Could it be a rebore?

I suppose anything is possible  Embarrassed but why rechamber to .30-40 on a match B?  Here's the other cal. stamp ahead of the forearm and the Remington address (pity about that screw!!). Now I'd hear from others with a .30-40 as to how theirs is marked.

Caliber stamp looks correct. The later Hepburns used bigger font. And of course they all look like they were done by a child.

With all this talk of the smaller calibers I have decided to rebarrel mine in 32-40 Hepburn as I already have the reamer. Problem is I don't have the barrel dims. Could someone be so kind as to measure theirs for me? I need breech and muzzle dia. and length. I want to mimic a Creedmoor rifle as mine is single trigger. I talked with BRC barrels and Al said he would turn it to proper dims. He offers one in 8 and one in 10 inch twist. What would be best? I have no way to determine original twist. Thanks everyone...

My 34" barreled Match B in .32-40 B&M is .995" at the receiver, and .745" at the muzzle. But not sure this would be standard dimensions for every Hepburn, or if mine might be lighter dimensions to stay at 10 lbs. with the longer barrel? My barrel measure exactly 34" chamber to crown total length.
Cartridge marking on mine is ".32-40 B&M" and smaller font, but more carefully marked than any of my other Hepburns also. My older Hepburns with lower serial number and E. Remington rollstamp have the larger font like Spud's and sort of sloppy cartridge marking.

Thank you very much for the information. Going to be my winter project among others. Will probably go with either 30 or 32 length as BRC only offers
a 32 inch length. I looked at a 30-40 at my local auction upcoming (that I know I can't afford) and it was marked in big font "3040"with nothing else just in front of the forearm. They were done rather loosely too. This gun has a tang sight with a short base so someone drilled another hole which could be repaired I guess but there are two rather wide dovetails in the barrel for I guess a scope mount of some sort. Also holes for unertl type bases that have filler screws. Too bad someone messed with it like that. Thanks again.
