Thank you very much for the information. Going to be my winter project among others. Will probably go with either 30 or 32 length as BRC only offers
a 32 inch length. I looked at a 30-40 at my local auction upcoming (that I know I can't afford) and it was marked in big font "3040"with nothing else just in front of the forearm. They were done rather loosely too. This gun has a tang sight with a short base so someone drilled another hole which could be repaired I guess but there are two rather wide dovetails in the barrel for I guess a scope mount of some sort. Also holes for unertl type bases that have filler screws. Too bad someone messed with it like that. Thanks again.

If you go shorter length, then the muzzle diameter will be larger. I could give you the diameter of my 34" barrel at 30" and 32" if you need it once you determine what you'll do.

JHM,
FWIW,
MY Brg BPCR, rebarrelled to 32-40 Remington-chambered with my Dan Theodore tight neck match reamer,
has an 8 twist x 0.308" groove dia.
It shoots very well with the Lyman 311299/200gr
I use it for Schuetzen so far with smokeless loads.
I do have some longer bullets, NOE 311-247gr FN
that I want to work with, which I can with the 8 twist.
I will eventually also work with BP and these heavy bullets

I had one I 30-40 that was nice to shoot. It had a single trigger and is shown in Hepburn book. Shot 311299 and 4198. moodyholler

.750" at 30"
.747" at 32"

So not much change the last 2" from 32" to 34".

40/60 Maynard and 219 Donaldson Wasp, both single triggers.
I need to source a standard Rolling Block trigger to attempt some trigger work on the Wasp. I don't want to modify the original Hepburn part. The 8lb trigger on that Heppy will drive you nuts in a prairie dog town.

Heres a 45/70 that l found yesterday in downtown Bozeman MT. Looks like it was leaned in corner of a cabin for 100 years. Bore is great and the price was better. Has an early Lyman tang sight and a Lyman front combination.

Great find Rifleman! Bet that old Hepburn has some interesting history and love the case colors under the lever!

Here are my Hepburns. I have a .219 Donaldson Wasp & a Hepburn Sporting rifle in .38/50 also.

I noted your 32-30 Match rifle. I’ve become interested in the cartridge and the Hepburns in general.

Do you shoot that rifle, if so what can you say about the performance?

What is the twist or heaviest bullet it can accommodate?

Any help appreciated.

Like a Rolling Block, the single trigger Hepburn can be greatly improved by replacing the trigger return spring with a .045" piano wire return spring. It will likely be less than 3 lbs. after a new spring.

Rifleman, that a neat Hepburn, and looks like some careful cleanup will make it even better!

This has been a great topic discussion, with some nice Hepburns!

What a find. We just don't have that sort of stuff in the gun and or pawn shops here in Georgia. The one I have I purchased from a gent here. I started this thread because of the one I purchased and it has become a treasure of information and pictures.

Here are some of my Hepburns, all .22’s.
The top two were built for me by Dave Crossno using his actions.
The bottom two are original center fire rifles converted to .22lr. The upper one was a 25-25 Stevens, the bottom one was an unknown caliber. This one is highly modified; the receiver is cut away, speed-locked hammer, adjustable trigger, upper tang cut off/with a thru-bolt in the buttstock.
