Hepburn calibers

Recently purchased a Hepburn that had been re barreled to 38-55 win. Have seen them from 32-40 Hepburn to 30-40 Krag to all manner of 40 and 45 cal. rounds. How rare are the odd calibers like say the Krag round?

So is the 30-40 one of the more common calibers? Had a Krag once that for what it was fairly accurate.

I've had three Hepburns over the years one of which was a 50-110 with double set triggers.   The others were a 45-70 and a 40-70 2.5.  The 50-110 was miserable to shoot!

I have Hepburns in .45-70, .40-70SS, .32-40 B&M, and .32-20 cartridges. The .32-40 is a Match B with 34" half octagon barrel, and the .40-70SS is a DST with extra weight 34" full octagon barrel.

I have a .38-50 #3 Hepburn and as soon as my friend will turn his .38-40 Schuetzen loose the next time him  I will have two.
I had a 1892 US 30 and I think it would make a fine caliber chambered in a Hepburn.
But if I was to have one build in a .30 caliber I would go with the .30-30.

Those are some beautiful Hepburns! I think the 30-40 Krag is one of the least produced calibers mainly because it was late in the production of the Hepburns before they stopped making them and it probably was not one of the mainline Schuetzen calibers.
I like them too, only have the one photo of three of them. Mine are in calibers 45-70, 32-20, 30-40 K, 25-20 and another 25-20. My latest purchase at the Tulsa show is an unknown caliber as it had been rebored. Also bought an action here on the forum but haven’t decided what to do with it yet!

Oh my goodness. Mine ain't a patch to some of these guns. It is somewhat an orphan. It is an early gun that has seen many miles. Right now it is a 38-55 but I have a 32-40 Hepburn reamer and if I can find a 30 inch 30 cal blank it may go back to that. Thanks for all the beautiful pictures...
