Smallest Gun Screw

Got my first German Martini Off Hand Rifle this week.  The Sights intrigued me.  At first I thought these were Rivits holding on the U Notch on the Mid Barrel Sight.  Smallest I've ever dealt with.  I'll take a Dozen please.  One to replace the one I will drop, no use looking for it, and the rest for peace of mind.  David

Brownells set of fillister head screws have some really small screws, but I’m not sure if they are that small with the correct TPI. Would have to look tomorrow and check my set out.

Some old scopes used watch screws to hold the crosshairs, and I've seen watch screws in a few old set-triggers too.

Easy enough to find information on Small Screws, not so easy on Miniature Screws.  Best I've come up with.  Got a 1920's Machinery Handbook I'll look at in the morning.

David,
If they are in fact metric, check out Micro-Mark they have screws down to .5mm diameter or make them...
Making a micro size screw isn't too tough either, it's a single pass cut with a real sharp tool.  If the thread isn't too long, a 1/4 of a thread difference or less won't really be noticed - calculate the pitch and find a feed rate that's close.  Example: .025" dia. 140 thread needs a feed rate of .007142 and a thread depth of .004"

I’ve made 10 BA screws before.....well....I made about 5 before I got one that worked. It was for a BSA adjustable diopter that I lost the screw for.

The screws in the Model 1 Maynard tang sight are #2 size. I've made several of them single point in my 9" South Bend lathe. That is as small as I've made. The later tang sight screws were #3 size.

I learnt the hard way Angry, now use a magnetic catching tray when taking apart parts with tiny screws.... best $10 I ever spent.

I have a ribbed rubber mat on my bench, the small parts can’t roll off and disappear on the not so clean floor.

I have several Harbor Freight magnetic dishes that I keep around my gun room, and my two shops for gun or car part that are small. Anything that might be small enough to fall and be lost goes into the magnetic dishes as I disassemble. They've kept me from losing a lot of little screws over the years.

I'm so scattered and unorganized I've lost butstocks minutes after taking them off.
