32/40 in a Remington 1 1/2 Rolling Block

I have a nice condition RRB 1 1/2 that has a sewer pipe 32 RF bore.  I am going to have it reclined to 32/20 but the more I thought about it I would like it in 32/40 Winchester.   I have read that the 1 1/2 action is not strong enough for the 32/40.  Other sources say it is. Has anyone converted a 1 1/2 to 32/40?   And, what are some of the other opinions.
Thanks

I have a Remington #1 1/2 that I converted to center fire and barreled with one of Al Story's  Borchardt Rifle  Company barrels. I honed the axle pin holes in the receiver, breech block and hammer and made new oversize tool steel pins. It is very effective on whitetail with the Hornady 160 grain FTX bullets out to a little over 100 yards with complete pass thru and a great blood trail. Also effective on javalina and coyotes with cast bullets. A nice rifle to carry in the woods and fun to plink with.

As far as I can fine out the 1 1/2 was made in pistol calibers running about 16,000 PSI max. The 32-40 is almost double that for pressure.

The 1 1/2 is basically a #1 in every way, except it's a little smaller lower in the sidewalls. If it was going to come apart, I'd guess that some of the larger cartridges like .44-40 and .38-40 it was chambered in would have caused failures too.
Not sure I'd shoot any higher velocity jacketed ammo in a 1 1/2 in .32-40, but medium charges with cast bullets shouldn't be a concern.

The gunsmith project book by DeHaas has a list of calibers he suggests as safe for the #1 1/2. Some are quite interesting. The 32-40 is not at the top of the pressure scale on that list. His books contain a wealth of information on single shots. As always with an antique firearm proceed with caution and use common sense in your approach.
