The springs Jack First and Wisner's are/were selling for Favorites are actually 44 springs.  I've bought from both, and had to reduced their width by about 1/8" to lighten them up for use in a Favorite.

If all else fails, I've got a couple in stock that I'm not likely to use.

Here's that mainspring:

Slow on the uptake here - just noticed that your springs are installed backwards.  This is the correct orientation:

Measure the thickness of those springs.  Just checking some here, I get .065" for an OEM Model 44 spring, while the early Favorite spring is more like .038" thick.

Glory Hallelujah!   S&S still has the 44 mainsprings in stock.

The predecessor models to the 44 were introduced under the Ideal nameplate, and this continued through the life of the 44 action. There were many premium versions which had other model names, but they were all "Ideals".  The base model 44 could be ordered with options, a Lyman tang sight and Beach front sight, for example, or a different barrel, but it was still a base model even though it looked like a Model 45 "Ideal Range".   Confusing?  You betcha.

Order up a Stevens catalog from Cornell Publications, there's way too much detail for a forum post. The 1898 issue would be a good choice.

While you're waiting for that, pull the barrel out and look at the number stamped on the face of the frame.  It could be a 45 after all.

There's a big slotted set-screw on the bottom, just at the front of the receiver.  Back that out about 1/4 inch. Then open the action all the way, to clear the extractor from its' slot, and the barrel will unscrew.  Should not be more than hand tight.  (A gun that's been together for 100 years may need strong hands.)

This is a thing I love about the 44 series - it's designed to come apart without any special tools, such as a barrel vise.

n.b. - better tell you now: if you want to take the lever and breechblock assembly out, undo the screw on the right side of the action, then push the pivot bolts out.  The slot on the left is just to help you get the detent lined up when you go to put it back together.
