Relining a relined barrel?

A friend has a small frame BSA that he has offered to me, a thick side #12. It has been relined in it’s past to .22LR (the original chambering).

I would like to have it converted to centerfire and then relined to .25-20 Winchester.

Given that the existing liner was installed who knows when, and is likely soldered in place, what issues will I be looking at? Is this feasible or will I run into problems?

For some additional information, the work will performed by John Taylor, who I have yet to consult. I wanted to get some opinions and advice before bothering him.

Thanks to those of you who might be of assistance!

Since John is going to reline it, I wouldn't worry about the existing liner. He can do the work, and wont have any issues lining it again.

I’ve removed soldered in liners by placing the barrel in my oven at 500 degrees for 20 minutes, and pushing it out with a wooden dowel rod, might take heating the barrel up a couple times.

For what it's worth,
Back when I was a Handyman and fixing a water leak on Copper Pipe needing to re-use a fitting.  Learned that if I got the Fitting too hot the Solder would "burn" so to speak and make a tough job of it.  500° in an Oven sounds great.  Without an Oven slow heat with a Torch works.  By slow I mean not getting any one area overheated but making sure the assembly is heated evenly.  Read a post on another Forum where someone asked about using a Hair Dryer to solder a liner.  It would be slow going but safe from overheating.  David

If it's a Parker Liner it would be a shame to remove it.they are often more accurate than the original bore.

Yup, always wondered about relining a barrel that didn't have a liner.

I have always wondered the same thing but then if you looked at it as redoing the bore or repairing the bore it sounds better.
The cost of liners had gone up a small amount so like everything ells the barrel lining job cost more. I see that Green Mountain has 25-20 barrel blanks again for less than a liner cost. Might think about just going with a new barrel and set the old one aside or sell it. Cost to install a new barrel would be close to the cost of doing a liner job and the new barrel would be heat treated 4140 which is a bit tougher than the 4130 steel used for liners.

A standard 25-20 liner with a 1:14 twist at TJ's is 7/16" in diameter.  You might want to consider a 25-35 liner with the same dimensions but a 1:10 twist and it is 1/2" in diameter.  Talk to John about the merits of each.  I'm guessing John will use a core drill of appropriate diameter and pilot bushing size (likely .215 if the liner is British) and drill the barrel with the liner in.  If you remove the existing liner you have a "bore" which will probably be a non-standard diameter, making correct pilot selection more difficult.
