I had a friend that must have learned firearms care from Jerry.

After Jerry's death his weapons were buried on a creek near Raymond, Alberta where we believe he was born.
We do not know why the rifle was smashed up.

Someone dug up the remains and they ended up in the Fort Whoop Up Museum who sold them with their rifle collection.
Present owner is trying to return them to the Piikani Peigan Nation

I grew up with Jerry's grandson with the same name and wish to get the history on the practice of burying weapons after death next time I see him.

I figured it must have been something like that, but I couldn't help making the crack about George's guns. He once left them with me while he was working out of the country. I didn't want 'em in the room with my own, lest they get whatever disease they were carrying.

Maybe a bandolier/cartridge pouch?

I'm not a complete idiot, some of my parts are missing.

Armed beyond their teeth!  And printed in reverse.  Is the Sharps the only cartridge single shot?  (The men to the left seem to be holding, respectively, a Spencer and a full-stock plains rifle, while the gun laying on the floor appears to be a shotgun.)  In any case, a really great photo!

That Tut guy looks dead.  Maybe they should bury him.
