Well, it isn't tough to identify the pair on the right- well-known names even today. But is the fellow on the top left the one who got famous, and likely richer, selling gun sights?

Sure is, and he lived in Denver designing and selling his sights before moving to San Francisco and doing the same. He shot quite well in both locations, and fared much better than Pope did with his experience with the 1906 earthquake. Kings success continued into the 1940's if memory serves. I still have one of his catalogs I got from Frank Schilling's gun shop on Post street in San Jose in the late fifties.

I wonder what the two extra screws on the side of the Ballard were for?
Any ideas?

Could it be for some type of bullet seater, or perhaps some type of sight that is not mounted?

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Strange location for a breech seating tool, and seems a bit low for a sight also? Wonder if it was for a finger rest that some shooters added when they lightened the triggers to a hair trigger?

It appears the Ballard has no rear sight.

A Climin' Lyman would mount low.

Seems unlikely but the white spots could be a defect in the photo.

I vote for defect. Here's another one of her with two white spots in her lever action's magazine tube. (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links))

I have seen this one somewhere- remember the unusual way of fastening the shirt. But, I really like those chaps and his choice of shootin' iron. Good photo- Smiley

Looks like a type of single shot I can't identify.

not exactly single shot- but I doubt that either managed a second- here's a new one on me. I think it would be good to include this in the matches where horses are available. The helmets are probably a good idea if it is adopted. whadda ya say? Roll Eyes

Don't think I would be standing on those horses when the shot was fired...
