So much history laying on that table... Can you imagine the talent it took to build those guns.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Agates. When I moved to Idaho naturally was interested in hounding here. Locals told me Lime creek is where ya arta be. So I loaded up the Jeep and drove to Lime Creek. Drove way gone up in them hills and when I started seeing chips of agate in the road I pulled over. When I got out of the Jeep twisted my ankle on a 17 pound chunk of Chalcedony. What a wonderful place to land for an old rock hound.

Thanks for the excuse to post rock pictures!

Wes,
I have a retarded idear, with some effort you could make a grip cap and forend cap for an ugly Ballard and you'd have a purpose other than just gazing at them there rocks.  Grin

I'd like to see something original like that when I finally show up for Stars and Stripes

That material on the left would make a great forearm tip and grip cap.

Material being vein agate is only a little over an inch wide. Like rock knife handles I don't think rocks belong on guns along with plastic and aluminium.

I did NOT get to take my .32 Long (switch hitter) Ballard out for Christmas!  Undecided

But I did take a few other Single Shots with me today!

Here is my 1885 Winder Musket in .22 Short ( low wall ) that I had a bit of fun with!  did a lot of work to get her to this point.

She ran like a charm!  ( Doesn't shoot accurately with a rotten bore but that will be fixed this year. )
