One Less Coyote

I got this critter off the front porch this afternoon. I was carrying an armload of wood to the front porch when I saw the coyote out by a beaver carcass at 150 yds. By the time I got the load of wood quietly set on the ground, slipped around to the back door, and walked through the house to the front, the coyote was gone. A few minutes later I saw it trot by the opening to the left in the photo. I grabbed my call and my Ruger #3, 22 Hornet and slipped out to my captains chair on the front porch. After a few quiet calls it came trotting out of the brush at 60 or 70 yds and stood looking at me. One shot in the chest put it into high gear and it fell over dead in about 50 yds. This isn't a tale of high adventure in the Last Frontier but it did make an otherwise slow day enjoyable.

Thanks JS. The only good coyote is a dead coyote. Serious. Kill them all. I try to, before they try to kill my dogs.

Awesome picture.  I wonder how many coyote have been taken with a Hornet over the years?  I think that being able to hunt from your porch is awesome as well!  Tom

I agree, the only good coyote is a dead one. The Hornet has been deadly on them out to 150 yds. It kills them dead enough without tearing up the hide. I set the carcass outside last night at -11 F. This morning I drug it out to the site. The birds are probably frustrated since the thing is hard as a rock but it might just draw in another coyote. I like being green minded and to recycle things properly!

Best coyote control is jack rabbits with rabies.

Congratulations and hope you get more, I have lost 4 dogs to coyotes when I first moved here  before I knew what was happening. I have not had the luck to call up a coyote yet but will keep trying.
