Whitetail with a High Wall

Took this whitetail buck last November with a High Wall in 30-30 Ackley Improved.  The rifle started life as a 22 long rifle, when I purchased it the bore was rough and it needed some TLC. After deciding to convert it to a center fire I purchased one of Green Mountain's 27" 1-10 twist blanks and contoured it to  #3 round contour. A 30-30 Ackley reamer was ordered from Elk Ridge Reamer Rental and the barrel chambered. When fire forming cases I was using 125 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips bullets and IMR 3031. The first groups averaged 3/4" at 100 yards and I just stuck with that load.
On the second morning of the season while sitting in a ground blind in a harvested corn field this buck walked out and gave me a broadside shot at 135 yards. At the shot he jumped and ran 25 yards and piled up. As I walked down to check him out it started raining, even with the rain and getting wet when dressing him out it was a very good day.

And the rifle is indeed very nice as well and thanks for posting it SSS. So the question now is how much begging would it take to get some of that WT Jerky.

I know for a fact that any deer in front of a rifle built by SSS is in serious trouble!  Great picture.  Tom

Nice rifle and a nice buck! I'd bet that corn fed whitetail is pretty good eating. Smiley

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Nice gun, and a good looking buck too! The .30-30 Ackley is a darn good hunting caliber!
