What about them "Green River" kits, how did they come? Serial numbers? stock finished, metal finish? More info please.

The Green River Hawkens kits were really rough and priced at a premium. All the cast parts were straight from the mold with sprues. They had a name an capitalized on it. Plus they were the only ones making a rifle that really looked like and 1820-1840 Hawken plains rifle.

the only decent Hawken rifles I saw in the 1980's were the John Baird/Ed Webber designed ones that Santa Fe Hawkens (Uberti) sold.  I had visited with John in Big Timber when Ed built the prototype and sent it to Italy.  Remember the Buckskin Report?  I have all the old issues here.
I visited John, and was lucky enough to buy an early one.  Six months later I sold it and got one of one hundred "Jedediah Smith" commemoratives.  Had that rifle about twenty years, before I went to a flinter.  Still have it.

Hawkeye, You don't give up, do you? Have you checked on the AMT Guns Forum? Harry Sanfords son, Walter has posted there.

Walter post there? What name does he use?
I never seen him there under his name but he might be using different. I spoke with him a few times and met with him also.
You can email me direct if you remember it. Still looking and hoping to find one. Not much going on there anymore, even I quit checking for months.

Had one, my first Sharps. The barrel threads in the action were not square to the face of the action. The rear sight was already three minutes left windage to get a hundred-yard zero. Every 100 yards of increased range elevation required another one minute and one-half left windage.

The only saving grace was the movie "Quigley Down Under" has just came out and people were crazy to buy a Sharps. The dealer took it back, refunded my money and even smiled after my story of the trouble.

I've not bought any AMT firearm since.
