Peterson 38-55 twist rate. (Read 231 times)

	Does anyone out there know what twist rate a Pederson highwall in 38-55 might have? The reason I ask is that I know some custom barrel makers used faster twists even in the early days. For instance Zischang used 1:14.75 for the 32-40. ( I haven't checked my Zischang highwall, but got the number from Gerald Kelver's book. ) thanks, Chris.

	Wes, I would like to know the twist of your Schoyen barrel. Also curious about the groove diameter. Mine is .3785 groove diameter and has wide grooves and narrow lands. It's a muzzle loader and I have the original false muzzle and bullet starter. Sadly I don't have the bullet mould that came with it.

	Jerry, the twist is 16 1/4 inches. I don't know the bore size. Rifle belongs to Mike Otterberger. Gunlaker doesn't want me to measure the twist because he knows I charge a dollar two ninety eight. I'm not cheap. Free for you Jerry. You want I should slug Mikes bore?

	Yes. Thanks for the free slugging. I am curious about the groove size. Also the width of the lands and grooves. Muzzle loader vs breech seater. Thanks Wes. Much appreciated.

	.382 Jerry. Perty sure Mike shoots BP fixed ammo in this rifle. Typical Schoyen rifling with narrow lands. No false muzzle. Nine grooves. The picture is extra...

	I have two .38-55 Schoyen barreled Ballard rifles and both are 1:15" twist rates. Both have large groove diameters around .381"
