As usual Greg, beautiful work.  You’ve got to love the work, and ending parts, to do this.  Alway inspired by your posts!

Really had an old guy moment when I started the knobs for these rings, thought I could make them really small and dainty... I could barely see the graduations on the turrets with my 6x magnifiers on while cutting them, what led me to believe I'd be able to see these at the range when shooting?  I'm lucky to see detailed Lyman or Fecker markings with my reader/safety glasses. Twenty years ago, no problem, haven't convinced myself that I aging and deteriorating.  Here's a couple pics of the turrets before I part them off, the first small set, and the reality set.

Finally inspired by a pic posted the other day, here's a re-de casting from Rodney I think, made parts and it works. Smiley

That's so neat Greg!
I just got a small collection of High Wall scheutzen rifles and two are Bremers. Would be neat to have a tool like that to go with one.

Noticed your probably spur of the moment mandrel for that wheel cutter. Sometimes you can't wait to order tooling so you make your own. I also have a couple of those...

Worked then played a little later than I intended last night but here's pics of the scope mounts and a level/scope-stop arrangement in their current status.

Thanks, it was your photo that inspired me to go dig this casting out and give it a whirl.  It does work well, I just need another match to run it through it's paces.

Send Rodney a PM and see if there is any chance he still has a casting lying around, I doubt it but you never know.
His bronze of this is one of the better I've ever seen, the lettering came through in the casting.

The set of Pope scope mounts I've been making, a modified version of course, are completed.  Please note, I didn't say finished... Wink
With any luck while the weather is still decent, plans are to slip to the range today and see how and if they work...

A much improved version of what Pope made Greg! Did you make the windage knob left hand twist like Pope did? His theory was it made a scope adjust like a Soule windage if he made the windage left hand twist.

Greg,-- Those look really good. Have found mounts are harder to make than the scope.

Thanks!

Chuck,
I have a couple of scopes on the docket, bought a couple of grades of glass, a bundle of tubing and studying a few different things.  It's all about diving in and getting neck deep before you fully understand, at least for me...  There was a little carnage making the mounts but most of that was diving in without a print or drawing, flying by the seat.  The next couple sets are going  easy.  I had a guy make me some Damascus so all these are just practice for the real thing...

I did go out and put them to the test today.  Just a couple of small bugs to work out.  Winds were a bit stiff (peak of 36) and at 400 yds with the 22 I had to hold some left -off- the same as Fecker or Lyman mounts.  My rough calculations for this first rifle were fairly close, vertical travel in the mounts went from 35 yds to 405 yds but my internal spring is a little soft at the top.

Vall, No I didn't, I'm used to scope knobs turning the way for correcting for a miss, the Pope sample I have deals me no end of fits.  With mine back the screw out, and the correction goes right and the same with the elevation, turn it up, correction goes up.   The other variance from Pope's, my scope sits right side up with the rib on top for Lyman, Unertl, and Fecker scopes I have.
