Sometime around 1913 the bullet weight of the 7X57 was changed. I don't have any info on chamber pressure if any when the change was made. Modern ammo max is supposed to be 51,000 psi. The original bullet was a round nose full metal jacket of 173 grains. Most of the 7mm rollers that were sent to me got changed to a different cartridge. My personal one was changed to 45-70 but then I didn't care for the recoil as I aged so it is now a 38-55.. I can remember turning down a roller that was priced at $49 because it was 7X57. I think I just dated myself.

I've had two in 7mm, one went down the road, the other is now a 38-55. Still have an original Danish 11.7x56R and a Swede 8x56RD.

My 1902 carbine was not a problem. The excess bit in head size was taken care of by putting a single strip of electric tape around the base for the first shot. This would also hold the case back against the block. With neck sizing only stopping before the shoulder the case would chamber on the shoulder and center in the chamber from the expansion just ahead of the base and the tape could be removed. In spite of the barrel looking a bit smooth from wear it was highly accurate using the 160 grain Norma bullet. Eventually I decided that what I really needed was a "buffalo" rifle so I sent it off to Higginbotham along with some wood blanks I picked up from a show in Reno and this was the 50-70 I got back:
