DoubleD, Here are three.  Carbine dated 1878 with M-77 sight .280, 1881 carbine M-79 sight .385, 1887 carbine Buffington sight .407. Hope this helps.

Thank you for that, and I may have a problem.

This carbine was not an original carbine rather it a Bannerman parts gun with a smooth bore. Barrel had no sights when I acquired it. A rear sight came with it but wasn't attached. 45/70 and 410 shotgun shells fit an fired, both case ruptured.  But it had no front sight.

I found a blank front sight some years ago.

I had John  Taylor install a barrel liner and install the sights.  THe front sight needs filed down.

I also replaced the stock.  The stock that came with it was a cut down something or other and the barrel band wouldn't fit as the sight was in the way.

Sounds like it might help to post picture of the sight.  Not sure the sight is even correct for the gun. (tomorrow.)

I suppose I could shoot, take measurements and file down.  Or just start shooting and filing until I hit center.
