Miller extractor

For the second year during our last match of the year in October the temperature was in the low 30s and my extractor did not fall on closing my action and I ended up bending it as it was behind the case.
I got to thinking about this and wondered why I needed a falling extractor as My RKS is a rimmed case so I made a couple with a round hole
I finally got a chance to try it in both my RKS Millers and seemed to work
Wondering if anyone knows of a reason this should not be done
