Automotive feeler gauges make good springs for certain things. Easy to anneal, work with and re-harden. Also many thickness to choose from…👍

For that small of spring the lead bath works very well, just be sure to keep the temp accurately where you want it.  And, keep it submerged, the spring will float, I set the lead dipper on top.

I took apart my Ballard 22 as I was sure it had one of the coils springs in it.. Here is a picture of the coil spring in place and a pic of the parts. While reassembling it the little plunger flew away and I could not find it so I made a new one. I drilled the hole all the way through the base piece and made the stem on the plunger longer. It works better and was easier to install with the new plunger.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Thanks!
The two piece pin looks like it would keep everything in place, and as you mentioned before it could also work as a trigger stop too.

Thank you so much for the photographs Deadeye!
That is a fantastic idea!

And thank you Bob for the tip on the lead pot, another great idea!

I appreciate all the help, I am learning slowly and hope to never stop learning.
