Who makes a 50 caliber barrel, octagon preferred, with a 28 or 32 twist to build a 50/70 on my HiWall.  Thanks.  Tom

Who knows when you'll ever get one from GM. You had best look for other sources.

Tom,
I know McGowen makes 50's in any contour you want, Some time back I ordered one for a friend in Texas for a rolling block project. Borchardt Rifle Co. also has the tooling, but Clay is not happy with the 50 caliber barrels yet. You could give him a call and see if he has made progress on them.

My Bad, I didn't see that that barrel was listed as being out of stock, my apologies.

You could try Jim Carpenter, 208-582-2091. He makes custom barrels at a reasonable price.

I got one from BRC and Clay also told me he wasn't pleased with the finish but I told him go ahead and when I got the barrel I could find nothing wrong. I built a 74 Sharps in 50-90 and it shoots better than me. It shoots fine.

Lilja will do 50 with a .510” groove, 26, 32 or 48 twist. Or if you’re feeling extra spicy a 13 and shoot some heavy bullets.

They also will do octagon in straight, tapered or stepped contours.

It would be worth a call or email to check prices on the smaller diameter barrels. Listed prices start with blanks larger than 1.25”.

They will produce a 50 caliber barrel blank in any twist you like, straight or gain twist, diameter you like, in stainless steel or chrome moly, and will cut the octagon barrel to your requirements and can ship to the USA.

However they will not file and polish the flats of the octagon barrel.
You must do the finish work yourself.
Have a local gunsmith install your barrel and chamber it.

My RKS .511 groove-to-groove .50-70 30 inch barrel on NYS Rolling Block with 48:1 to 34:1 gain twist barrel to shoot 477 grain .512 diameter Creedmoor bullet.
Barrel profiled using CPA Rifles barrel dimensions and obtained forearm from CPA for a perfect fit.
