44 1/2 Primer strike
May 25th, 2024 at 1:27pm
Print Post
Recently while modifying/switching some links for a couple of my 44 1/2’s, I had this idea to simplify the process. I like just working with the bare action and got real tired of unscrewing barrels. I made this combination primer strike/headspace gauge. it works wonderfully as a very quick indicator of primer strike. It looks like it will work equally well as a headspace indicator. In use, it is hand screwed up against the breechblock and the lock rings finger tightened against the receiver face. A thru hole allows pushing out the case with a small dowel.

Very simple, very ingenious and very handy. There is a market for a tool like this, limited of course but full of satisfied buyers.  I’m more than sure.

Thanks Rick!
My days of trying to make a dollar off low use/market items are over. I have a long list of great ideas targeting limited markets I throw things like this out on the forum hoping others can benefit or improve on the idea. It is indeed VERY handy, especially as a breechface gage. Saves  several screw/unscrew cycles as the length is very easily measured with a depth micrometer.
