Case stretcher

Print Post
Well from what I have been hearing the KAL case stretcher is no longer available and the gentleman that made them has ceased production. So if it was not trademarked or patented is someone else planning on making them? If not could the concept be re- versed engineered and shop made? I have never seen a actual tool. But I may be interested in the fabrication of one.

There are much cheaper case stretchers available - but take more time to stretch a case.
You need RCBS dies to use this stretcher.

Person who was making the KAL case stretcher can not do so anymore since his partner who had the patent passed away.
Not sure who has the patent now.

KW knows how to do this several different ways on a lathe, he's trying to find the easy button...  He's even asked me to get involved, I came up with a lame excuse yesterday when we were shooting, maybe even changed the subject on him, sorry Dubya.   ;D
I mentioned that he may get a hit on the forum if he asked the right question.
GT

**please don't misinterpret my comment about the "easy button", the stretcher is a far easier process than our lathe methods.   KW would prefer to purchase one if someone is interested in selling.   Where they are no longer being made, he suggested I chase down the patents and start making them... not interested **

My .40 caliber stretcher is for sale for $40.
Brand new never used - ended up finding new longer cases for my .40-60 Maynard.

Picture of the KAL-MAX case stretcher jig ($185 + $75 caliber conversion kit) without the 4-ton Porto-Power hydraulic tool set ( $575.45) that is also required to operate it.

Does anyone know who now holds Chuck Maxwell's  patent on this stretcher jig?

Rick from Kal-Tool no longer has access to manufacture the jig since Chuck passed away a few years ago.

I have not had an update from Rick for a number of years now.

If you're fortunate to find a used Kal-Max the following Harbor Freight 4-ton hydraulic setup works just fine with it.

I owned a Kal-Max several years ago.  Used it a good bit then sold it.

All I can say is that Kal Max must never of sold very many. Definitely a niche item for our game.

If someone knows the patent number. please post it.  Better yet, someone who owns one make a good dimensioned drawing so the clever ones amongst us can improve on it.

Someone asked about how to stretch cases on a lathe. Make up a nibbing bar like this.

A nib bar in the lathe works well, I lube the inside of the case and use a carbide ball. Also set up carriage stops for uniformity. Its all by feel and easy to stretch more than you want.

Got a dozen 1/4" and 5/16" carbide balls off Ebay. They work well for .40 and .45 cal cases. Drill the pocket depth for a net fit in the bar and slightly past ball center, then stake it place. One could braze it in place also.
