I took all the wood off of the gun and just soaked the receiver and trigger group in naptha, everything is now working. While I was at it I struggled and got off that old ungodly finish. It took quite a bit of stripping. And scraping but after it's reoiled I think it looks better than the  gloss brittle finished   it came with. It's one of those silly trapper models CDNN sold cheap on close out.
It's a silly little gun and all things considered shoot really well.

Glad the cleaning worked out and you didn't have to take it apart any further.
I was tempted by the prices on those little carbines at the time but since I already had a 28" Traditional Hunter in 38-55 that is super accurate I resisted.
Looks like yours is a good shooter too.

I have the Traditional Hunter in 30-30, its one of my favorites.I can breech seat the 308403 Pope with a simple push seater.I added a spare set of sights from a BPCR Browning and it's good for about 1.5 moa to 200g yards. No match winner but a great offhand gun.
