There is a Martini sporting rifle in a shop near to me in this caliber. Anyone have any thoughts of experience with loading or shooting it?

Everything I've heard and read indicates that .38 Special brass can be used with a bit of trimming. Bullets may be problematic though due to the non-standardization of bores back then. I should think that it wouldn't be too hard to cook up a winning combo. Sounds like something that would be fun.

And a chamber cast including the first inch of bore to determine exactly the length of the brass to use as well as the groove diameter

Oh, I have enjoyed shooting my Cadet that was rebored, chambered to 357Mag by Klein's in Chicago in the late 1950s
It shoots the 200 gr lyman 358315 RN bullet very well over

It's a .380 diameter heeled bullet, I think.

The .360 no.5 has a case length of 1.04" rim dia. .435" body dia..381"
The heeled outside lubed bullet was .366 dia.  It was loaded with 14gr. black powder and a bullet weight of 134grs.  Later smokeless loads were 5gr. Revolver Neonate and a 145gr. lead bullet.
Modern shooters are using .38 long colt cases with .38 swaged hollow base wadcutters, or Old West makes a heeled .38 bullet mould.

My Army & Navy Martini is fun to shoot. I use shortened .38 Colt or .38 Spl brass and a .366 straight bullet. It just goes pop! Have also used commercial .38 Spl HBWC and they work, but not as well.

The .375 dia heeled bullet is correct, but works better in 38 S&W brass which has a slightly larger diameter than 38 Special. Alternatively, just use 38 Special hollow base wadcutter loads. I have been shooting this calibre since 1997 ——every Rook rifle is different. Quoted bore and groove diameters in books are only a guide.
