A 12 yr. old's first deer, with a muzzzleloader!

I was lounging in my recliner when my nephew called to tell me the great news!! He said the inline muzzleloader I got sighted in for him did the job just before 5:00 PM this evening! But not for him! Instead it was my 12 yr. old great nephew's first deer, and he used the ML rifle to take a big doe over 200 lbs.!
Nephew said they were sitting in his barn with the side door open when they saw three does walk by. He asked his son if he wanted to use the 12 ga. or the ML rifle, and he wanted the ML. One shot behind the front shoulder, and thru both lungs and out the off side! The doe went 50 ft. and into a thicket to die. The two of them crawled into the thicket and drug her out. Great nephew field dressed his doe, and helped skin it.
All involved are proud, and very happy!

Emett has been walking along with his dad and others on fall hunts since he was 8 yrs. old. But this was the first year he could legally hunt too, so we all hoped he'd get a deer!
The normal fall hunt on his parents other property was a bust as that unit is buck only and 3 points on at least one side. But this 4 day hunt their farm is located in is either sex, and we've been seeing both bucks and does often, so hopes were high! There was one really nice buck seen occasionally, but he's been pretty nocturnal, and only seen about 30 minutes before dark, so didn't expect to see him again.

Emett is duly pleased with himself, for sure. Sounds like you have a swollen chest as well= good job all around.  Smiley

I'm probably as proud of Emett as his dad is. His dad is my favorite nephew, and we've spent a lot of time together over hunting, and cars since he was very young. And he's raised two really great kids that I love dearly too. Can't help but be proud of him, and his kids, even if I had little to do with it.

Wonderful!!! The smiles tell it all. I like the "first blood" on his cheeks!

Since we did that to his dad back when he got his first blood, I couldn't help but smile seeing his  dad had passed the tradition on to him.

Traditions and memories Vall, traditions and memories. That's what we have to pass on, and look back at years later and smile.

I was back at my nephew's home today giving him a hand with his new house build, and my great nephew got out of school early, so he came down to help with the work. I asked him about the hunt, and whether he was nervous or not? He was cool as a cucumber, and although pleased to take the deer, he seemed like he'd done it many times before, not like it was his first deer!

Here's one they took a cell phone picture of a week earlier, and hoped he'd return, but didn't. There's actually two bucks in this picture, and the smaller of the two is standing behind the big boy.
