Aluminum was considered somewhat like unobtainiam in the time frame we are dealing with. Almost like a precious metal. Why it is/was looked down upon baffles me. Possibly high cost at that time?

Westerner being an iron worker might bias his perceptions and he fails to follow Harry Pope's guidance to  modify single shot rifles to make them more accurate.

I am a shooter striving for precision and accuracy (not a collector) so I frequently and willingly modify bubbaed single shots.

And Westerner is advancing in age and may not be able to hold up those heavy iron single shots much longer to shoot offhand.

He might learn aluminum is lighter.

Jack, your new forestock does not match up well with the rest of the rifle. Now if you were to replace all that Canadian style stuff with a traditional forestock and paint the barrel black you would really have something. I have a few HW mainsprings if you need one. Leave the ugly bitched up rifles to the Canadians.

I would not need a flat spring since Ron installed a coil spring and the holes for the hanger would accommodate a homemade spring to prevent any lever droop is needed. I would need a way to secure the forend Wes.  Maybe a rubber band made from a bicycle inner tube.

Bite the bullet and buy a Miller target rifle. John has two but does not use them. Think they were Dave Purcells. I gave him, John, a Neal Rice breech seater for one of them.
Classy stuff and you would take them over the hurdles at the matches.

What would be the fun in that?  No exposed hammer, no nostalgic look.  I might as well be shooting a bolt action!

When you're shooting the Miller dress up like Mathew Quigley. Yer covered. You could drill a hole in the side and mount a hammer.

I could cut the spur off of a high wall hammer. And pretend it is a striker action.   Maybe add a shroud to hide it.

The "R Weber" mark looks to me like something done on an engraving machine, like many jewelers use.  I'd guess it was done just to establish ownership, just in case someone was tempted to "liberate" it.

Those decappers were made by Russ for his own use, so he put his name on them.  He made a re/de-capper in .25-21 Stevens for me, and he built a .25 hornet for me on a Ruger #1 action and used the engraving machine to put the caliber on the barrel.

I have it in the back of my mind to try and make a similar re/de capper. With the one I have you would need to remove the screw at the bottom of the brass barrel just to change the shell holder as the rod that contacts the primer protrudes into the bottom of the shell holder and is all that keeps the holder from slipping out of the slot. My thought would be to make the brass body in 2 pieces so by loosening a couple of set screws the top portion could be removed to change primer size or  shell holders.  I have too many irons in the fire right now to put that project on the front burner but as soon as I can pick up some 3/4” aluminum stock to see what it takes to bore out the shell holder slot. Brass is too expensive to experiment with.
