Stevens model 16 Crack Shot breech block needed.

Print Post
I can find all the parts except the breech block. The Model 16 is the side lever model. I have found some pictures of the breech block and figured if my search fails I may try to make one. I was hoping someone on this site might know of one for sale or possibly have a good set of pictures I could use to make my own block.

Thanks in advance for any help,
Boomer

Be patient, one will show up on Gunbroker or ???.  It may take a year or two.

I would watch Ebay, Crackshot #16 parts show up there often.
These rifles were also made in .32 rimfire so watch out for that.

That breech block at Homestead Parts was the first one I saw but it was long gone. Looked a little funny like it had some brazing work done on it.

I was surprised it only came in .32 rimfire. I still want one and maybe convert it to 22 rimfire -- maybe.

The first model  Crackshot #16 was chambered in .22 short and had a thumb safety. The later models were offered in .22 long rifle and .32 short rimfire without the thumb safety, which most people removed anyway.

I’ve bought quite a few gun parts from sellers on Ebay, it’s the first place I look.

I'll have to stop ignoring them, then.

You have to look at the Ebay listing pictures carefully before bidding, as some sellers list unusable parts unknowingly and knowingly. As an auction sometimes parts go for crazy prices that I’m not going to pay.

Pictures.  Not an easy part to make.  Lots of little Quirks.  Upper Left Corner in the bottom picture shows a small flat Bar that's Staked in place.
Hope you find one! David

Thanks for that reminder -- I was figuring that since rimfire .32 is like non-existent that those breech blocks would be more available.

Thanks a million for those pictures. I have some but are not as good and just show bottom and front poorly. I looked in the Frank de Hass book "Single Shot rifles and actions" and he only shows a retaining pin for the firing pin. I'm not sure I see that pin you mentioned but it might be a repair.

Yes, lots of parts, everything except receivers/actions and complete guns.
Occasionally you will see old actions listed, knowingly or in ignorance.
I know of a person in north central Pa who reportedly makes well over $100,000/year selling gun parts on EBay and elsewhere. Buys any gun cheap, often at auctions and breaks them down for the parts. Like the corporate raiders of the 1980: the sum of the parts is worth more than the whole.
