I too fought a B78.i swear I needed 5 hands to get it together. I gave up and my gunsmith had it together in 5 minutes. He had some dummy pins and a tool IIRC .it was 30 years ago so I don't remember what he did that looked so easy.

I happened to have the safe open yesterday and noticed my BAR in the 2nd row. As I thought,  nothing but the serial number, and maybe an assy number, on the receiver. Barrel has 'Browning, Belgium'.

For hunting elk, and the larger North American big game, the 338 is hard to beat. If one can handle the recoil!

About twenty five years ago I had very decent luck with cast bullets in a buddies  338 Ruger #1.With  the ideal 338320 GC and 24g of 4759 it shot under 2" at 100 yards.Velocity was shy of 1600 fps IIRC 
He was thrilled to be able to shoot in more than 10 times before his nerves gave out!
