Unertl BV20 on a Browning B78 22-250

Inherited from an uncle that passed away. Scope is in very good condition considering it's age. Has Unertl micrometer style adjustments. I am considering removing it to install a current Burris or Leupold. Question is do they have any collector interest? I'm into dog hunting and the Unertl looks awesome on the Browning but not real practical not to mention that I'd hate to damage it. Your input is appreciated

I think the “BV” stood for Bench and Varmint.  I bought a rifle once upon a time primarily to get that BV-20!  It has long resided proudly atop my Peregrine Bench Gun and I wouldn’t dream of taking it into the field.  It might be gently carried to a safe stand where I can shoot the vicious ground hog without danger to myself.  Roll Eyes

I have just sold my BV20 after many great years on my KK200 Walther .22 ,had a service last year and was in good nick, we shot a 100 yd match @ Hahndorf here in OZ prone or sitting, the BV was the ducks guts.Mine went for $1100 au,I gave it away at that price but needed the reddies for a new project.Great scope albeit a fussy focus set up.     Cheers Mal in au.

Mal, I can’t remember the USD to AUD rate of exchange, but $1100 USD would be a bargain for a BV-20 here in Virginny!  I got mine with a custom Ruger #1 attached for about that, but it was a bargain twenty years ago ‘cause the guy didn’t know what he had!  I don’t think I could replace mine for that.  Undecided

Froggie,  mine was a bargain as well, it came with the Walther which is worth much more now, could sell the rifle for much more than I paid for both back in the day! I keep telling my wife I make $ when I buy and sell!! She just smiles and shakes her head.Doesn’t share my maths.   LOL.  Cheers Mai in Au.

It was suggested by an acquaintance ( Arnie ) to transfer the unertel from the b78 to the 40-65 bpcr that I inherited for ease of load development and group size with different bullets and powder charges and then go to iron. After the first outings the last couple days at the range and using the Browning tang sights that came with the rifle - these 65 year old eyes ain't what they used to be. Does anyone know if the unertl bases from the b78 would work on the bpcr. I suspect they are different.
