If I went to confession I'd have to tell a lie.  Roll Eyes

The barrel is a Winchester #4 32 inches long. Dave installed a TJs liner in it.
Front sight is a Mike Stevens I got from a forum member. The action frame is an original Sharps with Al Story innards. Wes Turner supplied the wood, CPA carved it and supplied the butt plate. The rear sight is a Parts unknown item from Buffalo Arms. Not sure who Dave used for heat treating. John King installed the double set triggers.

The rifle has been in the works for a number of years with some setbacks but it's finally whole and I like it a lot.

Dave Casey made and installed the upper tang and forestock and other than the triggers, did all the work on the rifle.

Some some years ago, John was telling me how he was fitting high wall triggers into Borchardts. Let us know how they works as they sure look nice sitting in that action. Beautiful rifle.

Gorgeous Borchardt Joe!
Which .35-40 is it? The .32-40 blown out, or the .35-40 Maynard?

It's the one made with 38-55 or 32-40 brass. My C&H dies have a DT designation, Dan Theodore?  Pacific Tool & Gauge supplied the reamer.

That's what my Darr barrel was originally but when it got swapped to my Rolling Block action it got rechambered for .35-40 Maynard, and I wish it was still the original .35-40 chambering. Lot easier to fire form brass for yours.

I sized some 38-55 brass down in the C&H DT sizer die but the cases would not go all the way into the chamber.  They were touching the middle of the chamber.

Cutting a quarter inch off the bottom of the sizer die did the trick. Head size is .415

Yes I will use it. I've got twenty rounds of ammo to try in it. The weather is a bit severe right now so might be a while.  Wait a minute, the monthly Schuetzen matches at Butte.  Smiley

I hope Santa will surprise me with something as nice.  I did snag a nice single shot rifle in the Rock Island auction last weekend, so we shall see.

Beautiful rifle Joe!

Now you need to get some checkering on that Borchardt!

Thanks Bob. Yes it does need checkering.

And here is Dave Casey shooting his original Zischang Borchardt at Butte last weekend.

Thanks Vall.

So far I like it. At 51 inches it is very long.  The Borchardt action is long and the barrel is 32 inches, plus 14 inches of pull really add up. I never gave length a thought.
It does hold well and I'll do okay with it as long as I do my pushups and stay in shape.

The Borchardt as I understand it, was not an immensely popular rifle back in the day. I can understand how the rear sight without a lead screw and no numbers on the scale would contribute to that. In use it was a bugger for me when trying to make fine elevation adjustments or even getting back to zero.

Had my feelers out for a tang sight to replace the Borchardt sight when along came a Walker reproduction sight. That along with the MVA Hadley eye cup I'm perty sure there's nothing left I can do to this rifle. Well, maybe scope blocks, but the barrel is an original #4 Winchester and I just have not been able to bring myself to drill holes in it. If I want to use a scope I'll use another rifle.

That's the way Mr Zischang made them.  CPA flubbed my blank so the cheek plate is a little smaller than normal.

By chance a friend at our long-range shoot this last weekend showed me a Borchardt project rifle he'd just purchased. It's still unfinished, but was fitted with a Douglas Premium full round heavy 32" barrel in .45-2.6" chamber, and had the buttstock fitted, but not finished.
Whoever did the military action conversion did a wonderful job on it, and machined it to be a panel side, but no fillers in yet. I was very infatuated with his new project, and hope he gets it completed soon so I can see it done!

I'm sending him some new brass for his .45-2.6", so might sway him to take time from his busy shooting schedule to send me some pictures! Wink
