I won this on Gunrunner today.  I couldn't resist.  My first CCDST action.  I have a 33-47 barre coming that might end up on it.
Quote:
Winchester 1885 High Wall, .30-40 cal. single shot rifle.   Serial #72648, mfg. 1895.   Very good condition.  Cody data sheet indicates original chambering in .32WCF.  Currently wears a 30” #3 weight barrel in .30 US (.30-40 Krag) cal.  Barrel has excellent bore, re-blued finish, with faint address markings.  Open sights removed. Target scope blocks installed.  Drilled for military open sight. Frame has excellent blue.  Fitted with double set triggers.  Last version Winchester Scheutzen lever fitted with excellent case coloring.  Forearm is missing.  Butt stock has excellent smooth finish with curved rifle butt plate.  Action works fine.  Interesting rifle!  Antique,

Jack

I have a HW in 32-40 Krag.  33-47 is just a bunch of weird numbers.

How is that Borchardt working out?  The 45-70.

I have shot it 3 times, the first 2 with the Lee hollow base bullet at just over 400 gr.  The first was with smokelass and the second with some old ctg Goex.  The results were not that good.  The last time I took it out I used the samer BP with some of Bob Zimmerman's 460 gr bullets and was shooting right around 4-5 inches at 200 yds.  I tried some taper crimped and some uncrimped (the bullets would fall out) and the upcrimped ones were a bit better.  On the next outing will try a slightly less taper crimp.  It is coming along fine.

The Lyman 457-124 is a good shooting bullet in most everything. Good klucker klanker.

It won’t ship until later this week.  It was one of the final lots at Gunrunner. The nice lady who took my payment said they ship out by lot # and they have only 1 shipping person.
Still waiting on my Amoskeag HW from the gunsmith. He said it was rechambered and the extractor fitted.  It just needs the flat spring snd forend dovetails cut. I might ask for it as is and cut those myself.

Two new guns to look forward to along with my latest acquisitions from the Oregon Arms show.

I need a bigger bed to store them under!

Your newest HW has the fancy Schuetzen lever. Will you install MVA double set triggers, fit a Laudensack stock? Full blown Schuetzen rifle? Is that what the .33 barrel will be for? It's only money, Jack, and it'll keep you off the streets and out of the bars.  Smiley

With all shooting sports dying off and Schuetzen in particular it probably wouldn't be a wise investment.  Sad Oh what the hell, you can't take all that money with you. Live a little!  Wink

I don't plan on dying until Schuetzen makes a comeback.

Joe, if you're referring to the high-wall that already has factory close-couple double set triggers, what's so bad about those?

I missed that detail. Thank you for bringing it to my attention. Er uh, well uh, double sets look cooler.

Knowing Jack he'll most likely use those CCDSs in one of his many other 1885s. Maybe something with a plain sporting lever. How was that for a recovery?  Huh

Bill,

Joe just wants me to end up with a rifle like this so I am dragged to the dark side of offhand shooting.  He probably wants me to ditch scopes too and shoot irons only.

That barrel you're getting has never been drilled and tapped....  Wink
