Scope base adapter?

Finally getting a Martini Schuetzen rifle.  The barrel has the Mid Barrel Dovetail for the Open Sight.  Thinking of making a Adapter Rail that would clamp to it and then be the Base for my Lyman Scope.  Puzzling if it would be better as one long adapter or two separate pieces.  Anyone make one and can chime in on One Long versus Two Separate?  Thanks. I have one from Steve Earle.Works perfect.

one  picture is with  8x JTS,the other a shorter Wollensack 4x.
