Since it came up, this is the #2 that Scott teased. JES, Curt, and Al each did wonderful things to transform a pretty wall hanger into one of my favorite rifles. A special thank you to each of them.

This was my save...the vendor I got from was going to re-barrel it to 45/70.  It was sitting on a vendors table at the Sacramento Gun show many many years ago. It was greasy and dirty but I knew what it was. It's an early 40/50 SBN target-hunting rifle with a 30" barrel, a tad over 4000 serial number, set trigger, beech front sight, rough & ready barrel sight and almost a mint bore.  Also has the special trigger and sights marks under the hand guard. Nothing has been done to it except to clean all the old crud off and out of it.  At the worst case I thought I would have to reline the barrel..got lucky. Oh, it shoots well.  It's the corner stone of my collection.

I'll have to admit that rollers are my favorite. The first rifle I ever had was a #4 Remington. My father stopped in at a second hand store and the owner was going through a trunk he bought at an estate sale. In the bottom was the #4 rolled up in a blanket and looked brand new. My father gave $8 for it and it went to my brother. My brother soon realized it was not big enough for deer so he put the word out on his paper rout that he wanted a hunting rifle. One of the old timers sold him an 1892 in 25-20 for the grand total of $35. When he came home with the rifle my father gave me the little #4. It got handed down to my daughter many years back and I have had several #4s sense then. I think my favorite one is in 32 S&W ( lined barrel, solid frame).
Put a liner in a customers #2 last week in 32-20. Did a 22 liner on a #4 yesterday.

My old ugly roller is so much fun but the picture of Tom's #2, even brightened up, doesn't do it justice.  Beautiful little rifle in the perfect caliber for that size rifle.

What started us on this path was an old Ballard of mine that the Ballard rifle company relined in it's original 38 Ballard XL.  We were shooting at turtles and other targets of opportunity at a stock tank on Tom's ranch.  You can't pull the trigger on that gun without smiling.  Thanks for inviting me!

My roller. I was going to have John Taylor re-barrel it to 38 spec. but decided to save it as it is. I glued up the busted stock, bushed the firing pin and I'm working on making the brass to shoot it.

That's a neat carbine with that saddle ring.  Glad you're getting it out of the closet to have fun.
What caliber is it?
