I went through your previous post history, and added a post to bring the other thread back Pete.

Interesting design. I should be able to modify my cam style to hook into a slot like the one shown.  It would be problematic to make a generic piece with the hook that fits the rear scope block screw holes.  Each one would have to be customized for sure.

Jack, did you see the breech seater Russ Hooks was using on his Ballard at Tommy's?  Slickest one I ever saw. Simple and elegant. No mods to the action or barrel.

Wished I'd taken a picture of it  Cry

I wonder if Joe Feldman has one?

Joe?

I have several that hook into the breech block opening when the block is lowered, and hook the rear of the opening. Some straddle the hammer, and some just hook one side by the hammer. One is a plow handle type that gives lots of leverage, and the handle is above the scope tube.
I can take some pictures if you're interested Pete?

I did not see Russ' seater.  Maybe Joe can get a photo of it.

Vall,

I have that stirrup style and was using it today at the range.
I have to hold it in place from underneath as it tends to roll out.  I think the tang sight base is part of the culprit.

Mine doesn't roll out once I get the hooks in place, and begin seating Jack.
This is one of them I built and use all the time. Didn't have the plug in it yet in this old picture.

I wish you had also westerner. I need to seat a tapered Hoch bullet that is for a Hubalek Ballard with a groove diameter of .341. I can seat a straight Ron Long bullet with a plugged case, barely!! I am not aware of anyone making what I need. I am wearing out the lead filled ironwood hammer I made, and myself for that matter. My friend Neal was to make one of his for me, but that was sadly not to be.

Vall,

My case is not attached.  There is a 1/4" rod with a rounded head sticking out above the brass hook that fits into a round cup at the read end of the case.  That geometry is needed on mine since the angle changes as it is pushed forward.  I made up an experiment a couple of days back using a small RC car U joint, but it flops around too much.

It has become such a habit holding it in place it is not really a bother.

I'll see if I can get a picture or two of Russ's seater.  Maybe Sunday.

Regards,
Joe

Great Joe...both Joes!  Heres pic of Neil Rice BS,I think the finest BS ever made.I think I can copy this with the hooks going into each side of hammer slot, hinged to free float and settle in. My over the top BS and my pusher I whipped up,using a Neil Rice style palm rest ...does the job but 20-1 needs a good push to seat aint purty but works for now and good backup...Thanks Vall for bringing up the old post, nice BS's there also!

Think it has been seen before, but another thought for a Ballard breech seater.
Best of luck on the development of a side action seater. Be sure to show pictures.
