Claro works fine if you have skills. I have used it many times. I'll be stocking up a jeager this winter from a blank I have had for 30 years.

That is a fine stick of walnut.

I recently (came yesterday) bought a nice hunting style HW done start to finish by Ron Long, Denver stamp.  38-55 with open sights, weighing 9.5 pounds loaded.  Half octagon barrel.  It has the best looking stocks on a new rifle I have ever owned.

There is just something (make that SOMETHING!!) about a fine grained stick of walnut that is unique.  There will never be an exact twin, although I do have a pair of '98 FN Mausers that are what the sawmill called "fraternal twins".  When the stump is sliced, there are two sets.  One when the stump is cut on opposite slabs from left to right, both top and bottom.

just lovely...

Shape of the stock can also be dependent to the type or shooting position your using it in. Prone, offhand, x sticks, bench, etc.

What spectacular walnut! I can't wait to see the gun done! Or is it "the done gun"?
