Stevens barrel dimensions needed

I'm replacing the barrel on a Stevens 44 1/2 rifle (No 47 with DST) in .22 LR with a 28" half oct/round barrel. Going for a #3 weight. The original was lopped off at 22" (!!!!). If someone has an original, grateful if you could measure the dia. at the muzzle. Thanks.

I'm not sure about the Dia at the muzzle, but a #3 BBL is just over 1 inch across the flats (want to say 1.064) and #2 BBL just under 1 inch. I believe I have a 28 inch #3 Barrel on a 25-25 and can measure later tonight if you still need to know.

My Stevens model 45 #3 barrel measures exactly 1” at the muzzle, however it is in .32 Ideal, a .22 rimfire barrel would probably be less in diameter.

With some careful measurements of the diameter at 22” and someplace else you can deduce the muzzle diameter using that math they taught you in school.

-or-

Post the diameter at 22” and the diameter at some other spot (and the length of the barrel at that spot) and I’ll calculate the muzzle diameter for you.

The Winchester measurements for a No. 3 weight barrel were .95" at muzzle and 1.05" at breech end. That was for octagon but I think it was the same for half round.

There are indeed two Americas. Simply put, it is not the haves and have nots. The two Americans are in reality divided into those who do and those who don't.

On CPA’s website, they list their #3 contour barrel at .1065” across the flats at the breech and approximately 0.97” at the muzzle.

Thanks to all for the replies. The CPA contour chart answered my question and it looks like the original barrel was a #2 so I'll go with the dimensions provided.

Unless cataloged or specially ordered otherwise, a # 2 was the standard barrel on the 44 and 44-1/2 rifles, hence many # 2s are not marked "2" in front of the forearm.

My #3 Stevens 45-44 1/2 .32 Ideal barrel is stamped #2, I’ve got a couple of 44 1/2 barrels that are obviously #2 barrels, that are stamped with a #1. Must have been a Friday afternoon at the Stevens factory. Smiley

It likely doesn't mean anything, Sure shot, but I do find it interesting that each of your misstamped barrels is one number down from what it should be.
