No, one can not buy Xs, but I firmly believe that there is a genetic proponent at work in the ability to shoot offhand, which is what schuetzen shooting is, historically speaking. This is not to say that those with that gift need not practice, nor to take anything away from those that do extensively, but to say that to be competetive at the higest level will be an uphill battle for those not so gifted. I am aware that this opinion will no doubt stir up a hornets nest, but just omnsho.

Yes, I believe you are absolutely correct. I have seen many shooters in all kinds of disciplines chasing the "magic bullet" when what they should be doing is spending their time and money being schooled and practicing with equipment and ammunition that is adequate for the job at hand, to get good at in the first place.
There is not a whole lot of good possessing the "magic bullet" if one doesn't have the ability to make use of it.

Someone had recently mentioned that they have 200 bullet moulds.
I only have but one, the one that I practice with and the one that I use.
Over the past 23 years + of competitive shooting I have been around several who have kept buying different rifles when they probably already had one of their best.

John, it isn't necessarily that we are looking for a better shooting rifle, just a different rifle. This sight has an epidemic of gun owners! I Always figured I had to collect something, but my problem is I haven't figured on just the one area of interest, still looking.

Bob there is absolutely nothing wrong with doing just that we all have different interests and goals in our own lives.
I have a real close friend that I have cut 11 bullet moulds for, why because he just wants try something different than he already has.
He just enjoy's shooting and trying something else and not trying to buy his way to the top of the winners list.
He is also not paying for any of them I just like helping him out.
