What does a barrel liner cost, and does anybody make them in stainless steel? What is the cost to install one in a barrel?

An old price list is posted above for TJ's Liners, which I consider one of the finest made.

(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

Cost to install a liner is usually another $300-$350 in labor.

The 5/16” are now $3.95/inch, the 3/8”, 7/16”, 1/2” and 5/8” are mostly $5.65/inch.  Price of steel has gone up.

Chrome/moly and carbon steel.  No stainless, as far as I know.

So I contacted a Gunsmith I've had do work for me in the past and asked if he would re-line a 25 RF Stevens Favorite barrel for me and he said it was to risky for him to do.  I wanted it converted to .22 LR.
Is it that involved, dangerous?

It is quite simple to do, just time consuming. You can do the 5/16 .22 liners with a liner drill from Brownells with a 3/8 drill motor. You will also need a chamber reamer and a tap wrench.

Not that involved, not dangerous. Perhaps your gunsmith picked up on an issue with your Favorite action that caused him to shy away from it?

He would have had to be a Psychic since this was via a phone call.  Any suggestions as to whom to contact to reline the barrel?

Yes, give John Taylor a call. His contact info can be found with an internet search for "John Taylor Machine".

Lining a 25 Stevens to 22LR, done a few.  need a pilot on the drill for the 25 caliber, use the 5/16" liner. There's a 50/50 chance the firing pin will work as is. Extractor needs to be replaced or built up. The 32 rim fire is easy to install a liner, just run a 5/16 reamer through it ( just taking out the rifling) but the firing pin need to be moved and the extractor replaced or built up.

I've been told by Gail at CPA that there is a 50/50 chance of a 25 rimfire firing pin working with a 22 long rifle when making a conversion from the former to the latter.  I have a 044 1/2 in 25 that will be rebuilt into a 17 HMR but I'd also like to have a 22 barrel made up for it.  Can a breech block for a Stevens 44 or 044 1/2 be set up to work with both cartidges in the case mine or the OPs firing pin not working with a 22 rimfire?  Thanks

If the bore is in shooting condition, why bother converting a 25 rimfire to 22 rimfire …. Just buy the 25 RF cases available now and reload them with either smokeless or black

Barrel liner is a permanent solution.  My 1894 is almost a smooth bore.
