gas check bullet bases

I know that if the base of a bullet is deformed it will affect accuracy. How about a gas check bullet used without the check and if the base where the check is attached is slightly damaged will that affect accuracy also? Or does the rear driving band determine the accuracy of the bullet?

Ponderosa Paul  I've shot a lot of gas check bullets without having accuracy problems. I suppose the same bullet plain base might possibly have a tiny edge over the gas check design.

I have shot a lot without  gas checks also and have gotten pretty good results. My question though was is it the actual base of the bullet or the rear driving band that the powder gas acts on as the bullet leaves the muzzle. In other words if the base of a naked gas check bullet is slightly damaged would that cause the bullet to veer off coarse.

According to Mann's experimental results yes it would veer off and any damage or deformation to the base not the band would have the same ill effects.

A bullet base regardless of a heeled/flat base for accuracy has to be perfectly flat, rounded with no dents or fins … Period

Wouldn't a cas check bullet without the gas check mimic a heeled bullet like in the rim fires?

"flat on the bottom and round on the sides"
Sounds like my next door neighbor's wife.
