10 twist should.  Should stabilize a Mos 120 grain bullet   Take a chamber cast and measure the bore dia of the barrel. And have David Mos make a mold for that barrel,  but question is what action are you using?  Then how fast are you pushing it?  Chronograph time

Push it harder Jack! I'm sure it can take a lot more than that!

thanks for all the help folks. this is the most helpful and learned group, and this is an excellent case of the the kind of knowledge and ability to be found here- I wouldn't be surprised to find that this thread is among the most replied to items on the entire forum. Cool

Jumping in kind of late here, do we know what rifle this 25-20 is chambered in?

Vall,

That is my original Stevens 44 in 25-20 SS.  That load is so accurate that I don't mess with it.   Grin Grin

Is the 4227 you use a native powder or one of the two refugee numbers that are so readily found these days?

I got it just after all the discussions about the differences so I suspect it is a refugee powder.  I rarely use it these days as I have switched to 300MP and AA4100 for breech seating.

bpjack  My name is Krag, and I am the one that inquired what rifle the 25-20 SS was chambered in. Vall was the person who suggested you push it harder. Quite possible Vall was aware of the rifle, but if not, it would not be advisable to push it harder till one knows just exactly how hard one can push it. Dealing with Ballards he would know.
