Typical Way to Alter an Enfield Martini Extractor?

I have an Enfield Martini action that I am rebarreling to .444 Marlin, so need to alter the extractor for the smaller case rim diameter. I was thinking about TIG welding extensions onto the current arms and then machining them down, but is there another way that this is usually done? Bushing the breach block and slimming the firing pin are not an issue for me.

Usually a bar is welded across the extractor arms, and then cut to size - that way it is easier to have/keep the correct extractor arm alignment.
Seems like you have a Martini Henry extractor, (577-450), not a Martini-Enfield (.303).  You could of course try and find a .303 extractor for your purpose.
And while you're at it, change to a Brit cartridge, more in keeping with the action  Wink.

In TIG welding the bar across the extractor arms, I've found that it's best to do the welding, with the extractor and bar, fixtured flat on a piece of aluminum. It facilitates refitting the extractor.

Thanks Guys. I actually have three, but have .303 extractors and breech blocks for two. One is becoming a .6mm Musgrave (6mm-.303 British), one is becoming a Smletini, SMLE forend  and barrel mated to a Martini action(the forend wood was chipped and missing wood in the action area before I got it). The .444 is will be a Marvettini, a cross between Marlin, Vetterli, and Martini. I have a Vetterli barrel that slugs at .429 with a good bore that I will cut back and rethread to fit to the action.
