You're off to a real good start! The 1884 is a far less frustrating build than the '87 (at least in my opinion)
What caliber are you going to make it in?

Well just to be different Im doing an 8 x57R, got a really nice reamer for breach seating from Dave Mason Precision (Black powder only). Simply based on the fact I can get a good quality profiled barrel from a reputable maker out here is AUS far more easily than out of the US. And I can get quality Norma brass more easily than 32/40. Got to keep up my rep for oddball Metric caiibres (8.15 x 46, 9.5 x 47 in single shots and 6.5 x 68 Schuler in a bottle gun)

Just need to now work out how to get that main spin to fit!! Undecided

Finally after nearly 12 months my Octagonal Barrel has arrived. Now its time to get everything correctly fitted and finished (still going to take me a while...lol). Managed to find a nice piece of wood in my old Dad's shed that will work for the stock. Will post some pictures as I go if I am organised enough.

GT - got my u-bolts ready for the scope mount and some bike tyre off cuts to hold the frond on  Grin

Quick rough pic of the basics, just waiting to be finished. Hopefully the figure in the timber can be seen.

Nice progress on the Farrow! Also a nice stick of walnut! ... I would favor laying out the wrist to match the grain flow around where I've marked the blue lines for more strength. Of course I've not seen the other side to know how the grain flows there - or maybe missed some other flaw in the wood?? ... just my $0.02
Anxious to see this one come together!
Cheers! Jeff P

Ditto to the above... in fact, I might suggest trying to lay out the stock by turning the blank upside down... you might get better grain flow (and strength) through the wrist that way... and that pretty grain back in the body of the stock would still look great.  I agree, that's a pretty stick of wood!  Cheesy

Froggie

PS  I've always thought the Farrow action was one of the all time greats of the Golden Era.  I wonder what would have happened if Marlin, Stevens or Winchester had manufactured them on Farrow's patent.  Cool

Any updates CharleHunter? Tempted to order up one of these kits from Rodney too... much simpler than some of the other actions.

Thanks for sharing! Jeff P

Other than some hand polishing of parts , no. We have had state level Black Powder titles a week or so ago and National Titles coming up over the Easter weekend. The two fellow club members that are assisting me, one doing the chambering and barrel fitting and one assisting with a band saw to cut my stock are somewhat tied up at present as a result.  Will give me some more polishing time!
