And another 1877 Sharps build....

Don't want to hijack GT's thread so I will start another. This is my '77 Sharps being built up from Rodney Sotrie's casting set.First month I had no machines as I am rebuilding my shop after a fire so everything was done with files and elbow grease.

Then I found a Clausing 12x36 and a really nice Burke knee mill and things began to really progress.Except for all the power shutoffs whenever it got windy....Life in Paradise is a hit or miss affair with PG&E deciding when you have power and when you don't!

More pics along the way...Lockwork is a real adventure, I ended up making the sear and bridle over since I could not get the castings to see things my way.

Had the same problem when I built mine years ago. Castings have a way of being small in places they need to be big. Detail was there just shy of material. Such is the challenge of working with castings. I would do another if I had one.

Great job on that! Rodney had mentioned that you were working on one.  Your attention to detail is exceptional, keep it up!  Please post as you go or in this case, as you went?  Machines or not there is a lot of hand work to make these come out.
Thanks for sharing.

Many thanks! I took a ton of pictures along the way, some are interesting, some just to remind me how to get out of the jams I get myself into...Been a long time since I did this sort of metal work but I am enjoying myself immensely.

I will try to get all the better pics arranged , I bulk uploaded them to Imgur and they have changed their editing system so I am confused, my normal state.

What kills me is before that damned fire I had a complete, I mean 100% complete duplicate of Dr. Merrill Deere's 1877 cast in polyurethane resin I made way back in 1989 for Tom Axtell when he was first starting his '77 project.I made RTV rubber molds off of every piece of that rifle, you could assemble it and even the lock would function.

Had the parts all wrapped up in a big long box upstairs 'cause someday I was going to build myself one.Sure could have used that stuff now!Ah, well.Bless you, Rodney! More pics soon as I figure it out .
