Wesson falling blocks

I've long admired Steve Earle's Wesson falling blocks. My local library has a copy of Grant's 2nd volume, and in thumbing through it today, I find a chapter on Wesson rifles. Earle calls his center hammer falling block the No.2 Mid-range but Grant calls it the No.1 Mid-range. I have to believe Earle knows his stuff, but Grant claimed to have an advertising circular from the era. What's the story? Was there a second variation on this model?

Grant also shows a No.2 Long and Mid-range which is a tidy side hammer job, with the lock work tucked into the back of the receiver. I think Earle needs yet another model in his line.
