	(You need to *Login* or *Register* to view media files and links) Top is my .40-85/90 Ballard cartridge for my Pacific. The Montana barrels are larger diameter than the receiver, and that Ballard's barrel is too small to be a Montana. But they also offered the Pacific in even longer cases than the .40-85 too!

	The cartridges in the belt of the fellow with the pacific look more like 45-70 length to me, not as long as the cartridges for the Montana as I said, nor as long as some others available for the Pacific, as I mentioned also. Again, if these men are affiliated with the Army or a militia, the 45-70 would make more sense, but highly doubtful we will ever know for sure. Regardless, I just thought it was a really neat photograph.

	The fellow with the highwall and cartridges, look to me to be considerably longer than the Ballard's. The fellow with the Trapdoor is easier!!!

	Hello Since that photo is in my collection I have examined my 7.75mb scan and they are all .45-70 cartridges.

	Here is a photo from John Dutcher's Ballard book. It shows a member of the Northwest Mounted Police holding a Ballard sporting rifle. Standard issue at the time would have been a Snider Enfield Mk. III carbine. Regards Powderman

	Smith was hired by “Buffalo Bill” Cody to appear with his Wild West troop in 1886. Almost immediately, she was seen to be Annie Oakley’s rival. During Cody’s tour of Europe the following summer, the rivalry became public over perceived slights by European royalty. Smith left the show in 1889, and faded into obscurity. 	Every photo and description of Lillian Smith that I've run across shows/describes a woman who, as my mom would have said, was "pleasingly plump". Therefore. I have strong doubts that the left-hand photo above is Miss Lillian. Bill Lawrence
